Kia ora, I’m Tom.

I started this blog in July 2021.

I enjoy backcountry adventure, writing and photography. This blog is a way to combine these passions in a creative outlet.

I live in Ōtautahi, New Zealand with my partner – and two cats, three bikes, three kayaks, and one packraft. I work full time to support the financial drain of purchasing outdoor equipment.

I have spent a considerable time coping with injury. This prevented me from getting out on missions for about 3 years. I am now recovering and able to venture further. The experience has lead to a feeling of joy and delight to be able to do these cool things. I would like to maintain this sense of privilege as I continue my adventures.

I am aware some readers may be in a similar boat, and can’t venture as far as you would like – I hope this blog can help fill some of that need.
